This page was last updated on 02/07/09. Smooth Jazz has been my music since 1980 when one of my college classmates introduced me to Spyro Gyra. The demise of Boston's WCDJ (9/93), Plymouth's WPLM (5/99) and Boston's WOAZ & WSJZ (9/99) wipe out full-time Contemporary Jazz programming in the greater Boston area. As of 12/22/2003, jazz/standards mix WBOQ Gloucester (104.9) has changed formats to oldies. Albany, Rochester, NYC, Pittsburgh and Philadelphia have all cut the format. My other favorite is Adult Album Alternative (AAA) music.
We lost longtime AAA station Boston's WBOS 92.9. Here is what we have
left: With poor quality music programming, too much talking and far too many commercials, I have switched over to satellite radio. Unfortunately with the merger of XM and Sirius I am stuck with more talking than I would like. So far it still beats commercial radio, even with the higher rates starting 3/11/2009. Here are my favorites: XM 71 / Sirius 71 - Watercolors (Smooth Jazz) XM 45 / Sirius 18 - Spectrum (Adult Album Alternative) XM 26 / Sirius 12 - The Pulse (Modern Rock) XM 51 / Sirius 30 - The Coffee House (Acoustic Rock) XM 50 / Sirius 29 - The Loft (Eclectic Adult Album Alternative)
